POINT LONSDALE IS LINKED TO & HOSTS EVENTS…
…such as the Literary and Writers’ Festivals, Jazz Festivals, Film Festivals, Lo Light/White Light Festivals and the Queenscliff Music Festival. Venues used have been the Point Lonsdale Community Hall and the Bowls Club.
This event is held early every summer, and is one of the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Clubs’s most iconic events. It is also their biggest fundraiser and each year they welcome approximately 1500 runners to the pristine hard sand track from the Point Lonsdale lighthouse to the main beach at Ocean Grove. Normally the 10km events start from the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse and finishes at the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club. The 5km beach run and 1.4km Ripper Nipper both start and finish at the surf club.
The Point Lonsdale Market is held at the Point Lonsdale Primary School in Bowen Road, which is just on the left heading into Point Lonsdale after turning off the Bellarine Highway. The Market is held from 9.00 AM to around 2.00 PM on the second Sunday of every month all year round, a special Easter Saturday market is also held each year. The market features a fair bit of local produce from locally made jams to spuds straight from the farmers cart. Lovers of art and craft are not forgotten either with plenty home made clothes and artworks up for great prices.
It is one of the most magnificent, exciting and unpredictable waterways in the world. You can swim it safely with us. Each “Rip Swim” crossing is done in a group of 6 swimmers. You will have a dedicated kayaker supplied by us. You will need to swim together. Water temperatures range from 14 – 17 Celsius and you can wear a wetsuit if you need to. Our Rip Swim season runs from January to March and then we have a winter Rip Swim in July.
Indulge in a bespoke menu designed by our Head Chef and made with regional produce from both the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas, including a glass of sparkling wine, tea or coffee. Served on a tiered platter, the relaxed High tea on the High Seas is served in the Lounge aboard Searoad Ferries, with stunning views along the coast.
The festival will include two high-profile keynote speakers and a VCE Writing Prize for students on the Bellarine Peninsula. The festival is proud of its annual Kids Day event in which local students participate in a free event with authors and illustrators.
Queenscliff’s second Low Light Festival brings together local arts, music, literature, history walks, film and culinary talents in a two month long celebration of the senses during May and June.
